Rustic Band

Rustic Band

This ring is a little like the roughed-up cousin to my wedding band. It has fewer diamonds and they are bead set instead of channel set. It has an oxidized finish where my band is brushed, and it has an irregular edge where mine is uniform. I think it would look great with my rings, though, and the price is excellent. Very tempting.

So, perhaps the Universe was listening. We have an offer on our house, and a unit opened up on the opposite side of the complex where my favorite place thus far has a contract. This one is priced lower and is less updated,so no new cabinets and granite, tile flooring and a fancy fireplace surround, though it does appear to have laminate. It’s another end unit, closest to the street, but maybe also furthest from where the train blows its whistle at the crossing?

The others we want to see are nearby and the one with photos has funky hippie vibe.

We will talk to the realtor as soon as Jim gets home and she can advise us what to do about our offer. I’m hoping we can counter and get a bit more, but then again, I trust her implicitly.

Dreaming

Dreaming

So if I was going to get a $35k wedding band, this would be it. I love French cut diamonds, and I it’s tough to find them in a good-quality antique band, especially in larger sizes, OR in a new band, but Leon seems to have a great source. I might lose some of the engraving, but then again the profile is pretty tall to house those huge diamonds…

Wish List for a new home:

2 bedrooms
1.5+ baths (okay, 1 bath is okay)
1 floor is ideal, but 2 is fine.
Tile/wood floors (not carpet)
Enclosed patio space of some kind
Access to bike route & sidewalks to walk to hospital and store
Generally walkable neighborhood
Low price
Low utility use
Low maintenance
Good resale potential
A marginal does of cuteness
Reasonably quiet neighborhood (i.e. not next to fraternity, train tracks, etc.)

There you have it. We just need all this and a great offer on our house, okay, Universe?

Jabel Solitaire

Jabel Solitaire

We have a setting like this at the store, and I played with it again today. We don’t have the matching wedding band that is curved to fit, but I think I prefer it with a plain 2mm band. I love all things Jabel, but I can’t decide if I would get tired of this ring if I reset my diamond into it. I could wear it with a plain band or with my straight-edged scrolled Jabel bands, but it definitely doesn’t match my original wedding band.

I did a dumb thing. I got semi-attached to a townhouse I saw last Saturday and then I got upset when I found out that it’s under contract as of today. Our house did show today, even before the price is dropped, which is good, but I’m not super excited about the options out there at the moment. I did get a Zillow alert for the house my husband was renting when we met 9 years ago, and that’s a fabulous investment property for someone, but not for me. We have 1 new house to visit Friday (maybe 2) and I’m hoping that we have good news about our house and find something good by then. I know I need to keep a positive attitude but it’s just hard when you’re not 100% sure what you’re looking for and you’re waiting on your own home sale. Ugh.

Dream Birthstone Ring

Dream Birthstone Ring

I’m normally not a huge fan of my birthstone, or larger black diamonds, but I really like this ring. It’s got such a rich look with the gold setting and champagne-colored center stone, and the Art Deco styling is beautiful. I would love to try it on!

I’m frittering away time as I eat my pumpkin pancakes by Googling indoor/outdoor area rugs and looking at second-hand couches on Craigslist. I really don’t have any business purchasing anything yet, but it’s fun to look! I’ve kept the interior of my house on hold for so long because we’ve been unsure what would happen, and it would be fun to have a new (small) space to decorate at my leisure.

Five Stones

Five Stones

I love the beautiful cornflower color of these rose-cut sapphires, and I love the antiqued gold setting. It’s the kind of ring you really need to see in person and try on to know if it suits you; unfortunately I haven’t been able to locate a place that has anything like this within reasonable driving distance.

Still no word on the house. Our realtor tells us that Mother’s Day/Graduation weekend can be really busy or totally dead, and that sometimes there’s a flurry of activity right afterwards. If we don’t get any more nibbles on the house by the middle of next week, we will most likely be dropping the price slightly. I’m hoping that we do get some interest AND some other suitable replacements come on the market to boot.

May Occasions

May Occasions

Okay, so just because I post a photo of a ring doesn’t mean I *endorse* said ring. Today’s image is a classic, vintage mother’s ring, complete with illusion crown settings and birthstone for each child. This design is a) difficult to re-tip prongs/rebuild, b) difficult to add gems to for an expanding family, and c) difficult to size when many birthstones can’t take the heat of a jeweler’s torch. I had to clean several of these today on graduation/Mother’s Day weekend, and I can’t say I’m sorry that my store doesn’t offer them as an option to mothers. My wish for mothers: to graduate to a more sophisticated option. like stackable rings.

Tonight I go to see a few houses from Thursday in person. I’m sort of excited, and sort of just tired and wanting to curl up on the couch with a glass of wine. No wine for me, though, because if I feel up to it I’m grocery shopping afterwards (yay). It’s difficult not to dream of cuter, more expensive houses and locales, even when I’m technically not even in the market for a new house just yet since nothing has happened with ours.

Stormy Blue Sapphire

Stormy Blue Sapphire

I love this sapphire ring. It’s got the medieval look that I like, and it would look great next to a posey ring (another ring stye in which I search for an existing unique reproduction in vain). Unfortunately, this one is sold and the artist doesn’t have anything quite like it on their website, so it would be a wait to see what the artist could produce with different stones.

Yesterday we drove around to look at houses before we stopped by the bank to meet with someone about getting pre-approved for home loans. There was a torrential downpour for much of the drive, which meant that we weren’t always hopping out of the car to peek in windows, ha ha. My favorite house was a bungalow just south of the square. It’s priced a little more than the others, but I’m hoping to get to see inside it soon. There was another one near the hospital that could work, too. The others……just not what we’re looking for. The meeting with the bank went fine and now we’re left waiting to see what happens next.

There’s a super cute, brand-new house a few blocks away from the bungalow. Buying it would mean our mortgage would stay pretty much exactly the same, but I’m still tempted. It’s one of my little fantasy houses but it’s much more affordable than it would be in the cities we might move to someday. So I’m refocusing my intentions to attract something perfect for us in the meantime.
